Data at the core of digital transformation: How Calibo enhances NatureSweet’s yield forecast capability

Digital transformation continues to be a big buzzword, with data taking center stage.

As a single-source solution for greenhouse-grown vegetables, NatureSweet enjoys optimal productivity based on accurate yield forecast thanks to Calibo Inc.’s digital product and end-to-end platform, according to Noe Angel (pictured, right), chief information officer of NS Brands Ltd. (NatureSweet).

“At the beginning before all this journey, we usually had 85% of accuracy in the forecast for all the production in the greenhouses,” Angel said. “Right now, we are in a range of between 92, 95% accuracy thinking about one, two, three weeks in forecast in the future. Once we decided to go directly with Calibo, they build the whole platform, the architecture really quick. Actually, we were surprised that it’s ready to start building whatever we want in this case, the yield forecast capability.”

Angel and Scott Sandschafer (left), chief executive officer of Calibo, spoke with industry analysts Lisa Martin and Dave Vellante at Snowflake Summit, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed how Calibo is enhancing NatureSweet’s digital transformation journey for optimal yields. (* Disclosure below.)

Digital transformation should happen step by step

The lack of talent, funding and cultural deficit are the primary stumbling blocks to digital transformation. This explains why nearly 70% of digital transformation projects fail, and Calibo seeks to eliminate these complexities by taking the right steps with the help of organizations, such as Snowflake Inc., according to Sandschafer.

“One thing that I think is left unsaid many times is the complexity of both processes, as well as technology in each enterprise,” he said. “We as Calibo have a platform that basically sits on top of technologies like Snowflake, as well as others from very end, from idealization through design, develop and deploy of software. Basically, we sit on top and automate and orchestrate those processes, as well as those technologies”

By offering NatureSweet an out-of-the-box digital ecosystem, Calibo enables yield forecasts to be done faster. This shows that Calibo ensures that the software development is tailor-made based on business needs, Sandschafer pointed out.

“We’ve seen some significant value, both in NatureSweet, as well as our other customers by improving the speed to deliver digital products by up to 50%,” he noted. “Leveraging Calibo, leveraging Snowflake, leveraging AWS and other technologies and provided them. The software development of the yield forecasting capability … could be started much quicker, and then ultimately be delivered faster by up to 40, I think it was 40 to 50% faster in regards to the development as well.”
