The transformational journey of HPE under Antonio Neri’s leadership: theCUBE’s analysis

Antonio Neri’s tenure as chief executive officer of Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. has been marked by significant transformations and strategic bets that have propelled the company forward.

Over the past six years, Neri has steered HPE toward a focus on edge computing, hybrid solutions and data-driven insights.

“Antonio Neri, as CEO, took over a company that was in need of a leader, and he made a bet … on edge hybrid data. It’s paid off,” said industry analyst and theCUBE co-host John Furrier (pictured, second from left), following today’s HPE Discover keynote address by Neri.

Under Neri’s leadership, HPE launched initiatives such as GreenLake, a hybrid cloud platform, and made strategic investments in Aruba networking. The synergy between these innovations and HPE’s commitment to data and edge technologies has positioned the company for continued success. Additionally, the strength of HPE and Amazon Web Services Inc.’s partnership further solidifies HPE’s position in the cloud market.

Furrier and his fellow analysts, Dave Vellante (far right), Lisa Martin (second from right) and Rob Strechay (far left), discussed the HPE Discover opening day keynote during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed innovations in the fields of edge computing, artificial intelligence and cloud solutions, as well as how HPE is demonstrating its commitment to driving growth and delivering value through strategic investments and transformative technologies. AI as a service and the future of cloud computing

One of the standout announcements this morning’s keynote was the introduction of AI as a service and supercomputing capabilities. With HPE GreenLake for Large Language Models, HPE aims to differentiate itself in the cloud market by offering proprietary AI solutions, leveraging its expertise in running supercomputers at scale.

“It’s huge for HPE, and the fact that it gives them another route to the share of wallet that they didn’t have before for certain of their private business clouds,” Strechay said.

HPE’s focus on AI as a service, large language models and developer-centric approaches reflects its commitment to driving innovation in the AI space. While acknowledging the strength of public clouds like AWS, HPE is strategically positioning itself as the go-to provider for private and hybrid cloud solutions that cater to specific industry needs.

This approach enables HPE to provide a unified, enterprise-grade infrastructure that optimizes AI workloads and accelerates digital transformation journeys for their customers.

“The big, big news here is AI as a service, supercomputer as a service, LLMs as a service,” Vellante said. “And they sort of said, ‘Public clouds can’t do this.’”
